3 Months Old!

I will have to do some back-tracking after Annabelle's birthday and post some more holiday pics and video, but I haven't had much time to get them edited...  We've been too busy soaking up lots of family and snuggles.  :-)  I am trying to be a good Mommy to number two, and will attempt to post a milestone picture and description each month for Mr. Aiden.  So far it hasn't been too difficult- I have a million and one pictures of the kid (obviously-because he's so darn cute) and it's only the third month!!!!  lol-  We'll see how it goes once he's not napping as much and on the move.  It's honestly hard to believe we are already saying "Three Months!"  Soon I'll also be saying "Five Years Old" as well...  :-( Makes me want to cry a bit...  Next year will be kindergarten and then whoosh- I'll be blogging about what colleges AB is considering and Aiden's latest sport stat or accomplishment...
Time really does fly as a parent...
To add to the updates above: Aiden is growing like crazy.  Like his sister, his head is very large!  He at least is gaining weight much faster than AB ever did.  The girl was 18 pounds at age ONE... Aiden and I were on the scale the other day and it was figuring to be 12 pounds...  That is a big difference.  I remember AB wearing NB and 0-3 well into her fourth month of life.  Our little man has some 3 month outfits that don't fit anymore!  Big Boy!
We have two very healthy, fun little ones and we're so lucky!  Some other memorable moments from the past few weeks are:
Aiden's first Christmas... More on that in a future post.
Aiden's first giggle - directed at his Daddy (he also got the first official smile as well!-LUCKY)
His first real laugh was while watching Daddy in the kitchen drinking from his water bottle.  He would take a sip and then make that sound, "AHHHHHH"- after each one.
Aiden would just giggle... too cute.
Annabelle being placed on scissor restrictions...  After cutting Sahara's hair!  Notice the chunks of hair missing from her fur.  That was a big one & what a mess!!  We are glad she didn't cut her own hair, or even worse her brother's hair... so for that we're grateful.  We are also grateful that Sahara is such a calm, sweet and tolerant dog... She wouldn't hurt a fly...even when getting a really really bad hair-cut.
And... The knife incident that prompted Annabelle to conclude:  "Small children should not use knifes and so shouldn't old people because they will cut themself.  Let's not tell Dano this, ok?  We don't want him to have hurt feelings about that."  Our poor Dano cut his hand while trying to open a toy that was heavily packaged.  He actually had to get a few stitches!

Loving the Season!

This time of year is the best.  It's hard to say good-bye to fall and daylight, but with the darkness comes lots of good snuggle time.  :-)  It makes you feel like you just want to get home when it's getting dark and it's so much fun being home when your home is decorated for the holidays.  It really is the best feeling.  Thank heavens we've got a little helper decorating our house this year.
BUDDY!!
This year Annabelle's welcome to Buddy was a little less enthusiastic.  It may have something to do with the fact that Nick and I have been pointing out for weeks that Buddy would soon be arriving to our home.  Of course, when this was pointed out it was usually the comment following some 'not so nice' behavior.  After all of those warnings, she was a little leery of our little elf friend.  She gave him that look like, "Are you on my side or their side?" That mood towards the little elf changed by this morning when she saw Buddy's special talent.
We've decided that Buddy must have been trained up in the North Pole to be a Christmas Decorating Elf because each night he's been decorating a part of our house for Christmas! We've all seen those naughty little elves and pictures of them doing really naughty things, so we're glad to have an elf who is actually teaching us how to be helpful and behave!  I mean- he is here to watch our behavior for Santa, so shouldn't he be modeling good behavior to us?????  Thank goodness, Buddy is one of the good seeds!
This morning, we woke to find our mantel completely decorated with garland, colored lights and ornaments.  It looks great!  I can't wait to see what he's going to do tonight!
Little Aiden Man has his 2 month appointment on Monday.  I am excited to see how much he's grown. I am NOT excited for the shots portion of our visit!!!!
He is such a wonderful little sweetie pie.  He smiles and coo's...  He's super easy going and so much fun.  We are so lucky to have a healthy, sweet boy!  Here is his official 8 week/two month bio~
He has many admirers, but one of his most consistent groupies is Sahara.  She's the dog who absolutely follows us around and cleans up spit-ups...  I know it's gross, but honestly, really helpful!  lol-
Here is a picture I grabbed with my phone tonight.  Of course, it's really dark, but I think you can make out the love!  :-)

Fun with Two!!!

How lucky are we to have two wonderful little peanuts.  Time is flying by and Aiden is getting bigger by the day.  Annabelle loves to help me with him and is the person he loves to smile at the most.  It really is so spending time with them and watching them become more and more interactive!
Aiden loves to take baths... He's getting so long that his infant tub is not to cozy anymore.  We got this really simple little chair for $10!  Bath time is too much fun!  Below are a few more videos.  One of him just being sweet and smiley and the other is of Sahara showing her sweet big sister side.  :-)
 So BIG!!!
HA!  Here is our little man sleeping in his bed...Well what he knows to be his bed right now.  He's gotten so big that his positioner in his crib was failing him and when we laid him flat he would have the worst spit-ups so our solution (for now) is the carseat.  When you match it up with the white noise he's out like a light in less than five minutes!  Have you figured out where little Aiden is?  Yep, sitting on top of the stove, under the microwave, where the fan is blowing on high.  I promise there is no chance of him falling and the oven, microwave and stove are never on when he's sleeping here.  Isn't it funny what you'll do to get a baby to sleep!  I remember with AB I was so big about it having to be in her bed...  I think I've gotten a bit wiser, in that, I know he'll not sleep in his carseat forever, it's just a right now.  The right nows will pass and I know that once he's digesting his food easier and able to sleep through the night that we'll move past the carseat phase.  :-)  Parents really do get smarter each time they have a baby... Or maybe with two, there isn't enough time in the day to sweat the small stuff.
Speaking of 'not so small' stuff, look how big AB has gotten!  She's learning so much this year in school.  I am truly amazed at her letter knowledge and ability to write, cut and draw.  She's really developed and loves school.  It makes my heart smile to hear her ask me to help her write something...  I find it amazing how much she loves to impress Nick and I...  She's really looking to us for approval and guidance.  She loves her teachers at school because they give her the positive reinforcement she needs to try new things.  Annabelle is a girl who knows what she likes (even if she's not tried the thing you're offering) she'll let you know if it's going to fly or not.  Trying new things is tough for her.  From food to activities she can be hesitant.  With her out going personality you'd think the opposite, but it's not true...  She really is apprehensive about jumping in to certain things.  Her name for instance.  She's been able to write AB for a while now, but this school year her teachers decided to try and get her to write her full name.  She was not having it at first...  Because they are so wonderful with her, they really eased her into the idea and now she can do it!  They just told her to take it one letter at a time.  When Annabelle asks me to help her write sentences I sometimes tell her, wow, that's going to be a lot of letters.  Her response is, "It's ok Mommy, we'll do it one letter at a time."  What a great life lesson...  One letter at a time, one step at a time, one skill at a time, just focus on one thing at a time...See it through and then move on to the next.  I could benefit from that lesson...  I pride myself at being a pro multi-tasker, but sometimes at the end of the day I've accomplished nothing and have a million "finish this, finish that..." on my to do list.  I think it would be better to take it "one letter at a time" :-)
In the world of Annabelle there is one thing that has been eating at me.  I know being someones Mommy makes you the #1 person in their corner, and sometimes you have to put that 'defensive' feeling at bay.  Sometimes we have to let our kiddos solve their own problems or allow them to fall a bit in order to learn how to pick themselves back up.  With that being said, and after giving it a lot of thought, I have to get in AB's corner...  This year we thought we would sign her up for gymnastics at a different gym.  One that is a fully operating competition gym.  They explained to me, that there was a toddler room and they would be focused on fostering their confidence and coordination.  Sounded wonderful, so we signed her up.  The first week Annabelle was certainly the new kid on the block.  The other little girls in her class had been at the gym for a while and were already buddies.  They were all wearing professional leotards and knew the happenings of the gym.  As soon as little AB saw them getting ready for class I could see the concern on her face.  She came over to me, wearing her leggings and T-shirt and said, "Mommy, I don't thing I am allowed to wear this for gymnastics."  :-(  She'd not even gotten into the room and she was already feeling overwhelmed.  I reassured her that she was ready to go!  The rules were for her to have bare feet and comfortable clothes.  I told her that she looked like a super tumbler.  She smiled and went in.  Whew- dodged a bullet.  As class started the teacher who was also familiar with the other little girls was openly less than impressed with Annabelle's coordination and ability to complete certain skills.  The class ended and we moved on through our week.  When we were heading there for her second class (now in a ballet leotard) Annabelle wasn't very excited.  The teacher this week was very stern, which didn't help.  Annabelle was attempting a kart-wheel...  Which she's never practiced at that point and she was trying so hard to impress this teacher.  The teacher just kept saying, "Try again.  Try again..."  On her fourth attempt Annabelle did her best yet kart-wheel and looked up at her teacher with a huge smile, waiting, wanting so badly for a "good job" or "better" - she got, "Go to the next station Annabelle."  I actually captured this on video and had to delete it, because watching her little face light up only to be let down...  Too hard for a Mommy to watch.  I understand there is a great debate about how we praise our children.  I tend to agree that there is a lot of silly things happening and a lot of un-needed praise is thrown around.  I want both Annabelle and Aiden to know that they have to work hard, and that in life you don't get a pat on the back for every small thing you do...  However, as a teacher, and now Mommy, I know about those sweet little moments where you can really drive a kid's confidence through the roof by saying a kind word.  These moments don't stop in childhood.  We've all gotten to place where we feel like we just can't do it right... and a kind word or a vote of confidence gives us that extra little spirit surge to try again...  I know I don't recognize all of those moments for Annabelle and I know I'll miss plenty more as a Mommy, so I'm not faulting the teacher for missing the moment with AB.  I just wish that she hadn't.
Today, now our third week of class.  Annabelle fell doing a skill that was too hard for her, and the teacher was working a different station when it happened.  Annabelle broke down in tears and came out to the parent viewing area for hugs from me...  That was the straw that broke the camels back for sweet AB.  She was done...she wanted to go home.  I just hugged her tight and suggested watching her class and join in if she felt up to it.  She did go back in, but after class on the way home she was so down on herself.  "Mommy, that class is too hard.  I can't do flips on the bars or jump on the mat.  I'm scared to flip on the bar..."  Is this why I signed her up for gymnastics?????  My four year old telling herself that she couldn't do it!!!  Nope...  It's been killing me inside.  I want her to feel like she can do anything in life.  I certainly don't want my four year old telling herself that she can't.  It goes against everything I believe.  At this stage in their lives things should be fun.  They should be confidence building, not the other way around.  It's our job as parents to put our kiddos in the best situations to help them grow and learn.  This gym isn't the best for AB.  It may be for others but not our little peanut.  She's still undecided as to whether she'll be a professional gymnast... and if you ask her Mommy and Daddy she's got plenty of time to figure it out.
Annabelle, You are an amazing girl!  There are things you'll be faced with that will be hard and you'll have to be brave and push through.  It's ok to ask for help... You are not alone.  It's ok to be scared to try new things and meet new people... Just remember you're not alone!  We all feel that way sometimes.  Talk to someone about the way you are feeling.  Don't hold it inside, and certainly, don't tell yourself that you can't.  You can...  You can truly do anything...

Six Weeks... Where does the time go?

Aiden is already SIX WEEKS OLD!  In my sleepy haze I think I remember saying when AB was a tiny baby that it was amazing that one night/day can seem to go by sooo slowly with a newborn, because you're up all hours of the night and your basically home all day long.  YET- the weeks fly bye...  How can time seem to be moving so slowly, yet at the same time be moving bye so quickly?
Aiden did begin showing signs of the GERD and we had to get him on meds.  The difference from a parent perspective this time around is that we know that it will pass and he'll grow to be a healthy, strong little man.  When AB was tiny we didn't know what to do, how to help her or when it would ever end.  Because of that experience we're in a more positive place with little Aiden.  Most days are great!  Other days are hairy, but hey, that's life with a new baby.  I am just so grateful to have two healthy peanuts who are growing and learning new things every day.  Aiden has been growing like a champ.  He's roughly (Mommy on the scale by herself-Mommy on the scale with Aiden) 10lbs already!    I feel like his head is growing twice as fast as his body, but that seems to be a common characteristic with our little ones.  :-)  It just means he's cooking up a very large brain in there!
At 5.5 weeks we saw Aiden's first resemblance of a smile.  It was directly at who else... AB!  I caught this little one on video the next day.  How sweet is that!?
We love to see that little dimple!!  Aiden loves to take a bath.  So much so, that when he's really cranky that is our go to activity.  It calms him right down.  He's holding his head up for periods of time and turning it from side to side.  No rolling yet, but I know that's coming soon.  Tummy time is a little more tricky (and messy) when you've got a little one with acid reflux...
We love to be outside while we can.  Trips to the park are one of the few outings that are pretty easy and good fresh air for everyone.  My favorite things right now are spending time with my sweet little family and watching Annabelle and Aiden interact with one another.  It is music to my ears when I hear AB having a discussion with Aiden.  She's talking a mile a minute and he's just staring up at her and interjecting a coo here and there to let her know he's very interested in what she has to say.
His little expressions are so fun to watch and that hair!!  We'll it's not easy having rock star hair at six weeks but some baby has got to do it... I mean rock it!  Heehee

Happy Halloween

Another Halloween has pasted and we had a lot of fun!  The weather was really nasty.  Raining and cold, but do you think that stopped She-ra from going out to get some candy?  NO WAY!  She did ask to come home early though, which surprised me a bit.  Aiden didn't make it out because of the weather.  He instead stayed warm and cozy in Nana's arms while Nick passed out candy to all of the treaters.  We still had a bunch of kiddos, even in the weather.
Sorry buddy, I couldn't resist playing on photoshop!

I got this little monster hat on etsy.  Aiden tolerated it for a few minutes so I could snap some pictures!  He's not quite learned to ham in up for the camera like his big sissy!  Examples to follow!

Leed's Farm for Fall Fun!

Annabelle and Aiden went to the farm today, however, other than eating when we first arrived, Aiden slept the ENTIRE time we were there.  We assured him that he was by far the best looking little pumpkin there!  What a sweetie.  Annabelle bounced, biked, slid, played and of course picked out some wonderful pumpkins!
Lucky for Mommy and Daddy we had a few extra hands on deck.  Mimzey and Dano met us at Leed's!  Above you can see Mimzey taking the 'dare-devil' on a ride!
HA!  Sit down AB!  You crazy girl!!
Sweet girls having lots of fun!
 Corn-box

Well, he really didn't do much pumpkin picking because, well, he looked like this the whole time were were there.  Annabelle and Daddy took care of picking out our pumpkins.  Annabelle did a nice job.  She found some that were $5 and $7.  She told her Daddy that we didn't need the $10 pumpkins because that is 'TOO MUCH FOR A PUMPKIN!"  She told Daddy he could pick a $7 pumpkin because he was grown up and that she'd pick a $5 pumpkin.  :-)  Smart shopper!
It was a great day...  With a newborn baby you really never know how these little outings will go.  Thus far, he's been such a good little side kick to his big sister AB.  We are so grateful to have two beautiful, healthy little peanuts.  It's been nice having little Aiden in the fall because it's allowed us to get out and about more than we did with Miss Annabelle in her first few weeks of life.  Poor girl was under house arrest until she was 2.5 - 3 months old!!  lol-
Thank you, Annabelle and Aiden for making your Mommy and Daddy's lives so much fun!  We feel so blessed to have these memories with you both.  XOXOXO!!!
