This summer is off to a fun start! We have had some backyard fun and went on a few adventures around Columbus.
In the backyard we got ready for summer with an addition of a brand new deck! It's really added to the backyard more than we could have ever hoped. We are out there every evening! Our garden, well was planned to be a wild flower garden, however, some of the neighborhood critters liked the taste of many of the seeds we planted. So, now we've got a play garden with the addition of AB's slide and a new tractor tire sandbox! We've planted some beans and cucumber and we'll see what comes of that, but for now it's just been fun.
Here Kayleigh, our little neighbor friend, and AB are washing the slide to get it ready for action! They also did some water-chalk, which is an art medium they created, that is bright and colorful and VERY messy!
They are a few year apart in age but that doesn't stop them from pretending the day away!
We're so fortunate to have such wonderful friends on Swansea Road!
I've also put my teacher hat back on to help introduce the letters of the alphabet in a fun way. Annabelle is only four, and as I know there are children out there reading at her age, Nick and I are more concerned with her being a kid and learning other important skills, like; problem solving, manners, experiencing new things, and building her ever growing vocabulary. I found this really great blog that a mother created Preschool Alphabet. She has compiled some ideas for each letter, including good books and printables. It's really been a good jumping off point for me. We've had fun doing Aa for ants and apples, creating an ant restaurant and counting and working on recognizing numbers up to ten. We did sequencing activities with the story Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? on the letter Bb day. We also painted butterflies! For Cc what else! COOKIES!!!! We measured and baked some yummy cookies and did cookie addition. Dd was a dot the dog day, Ee was a Egg hunt and this past week we covered Ff and Gg by having Fancy Fun on Ff day and Garden adventures on Gg day!
Fancy fun day was AB's favorite because she was able to wear her fancy dress-up clothes all day! lol-- oh, to be four again! Running errands dressed like a princess, complete with a crown! lol
Yeah, for the letter Ff!
Princess AB and Princess K on the back deck enjoying an very fancy tea (pink-lemonade) party! With fancy flowers in the background!

Sugar and Spice and Everything Nice!
For the letter Gg we did a few garden experiences. One I like to call 'real life gardening' the other was more like an 'Alice and Wonderland' garden experience.
Let's begin with the real deal! I was transplanting some "GaGa Green beans while AB was looking for worms! Her operation was a bit dry so we got the hose out... yea...
HA! What a mess! Let's just say we had to be hosed down after this one!
The day before we had visited the Topiary Park downtown! What a lovely little garden in the middle of the city! They have restored so much of this area and the older homes are beautiful! The Topiary Garden was also an art history lesson because the inspiration is Georges Seurat's painting. A Sunday Afternoon on the Isle of La Grande Jatte
We took our lunch, a picnic blanket, wore our fancy hats and dresses and went to try and 'fit into the painting! It was so much fun! We were there for two hours, looking in the pond, climbing a few trees, playing hide and seek, coloring some garden pictures, and my favorite memory of the day... Watching AB chase a butterfly with her butterfly net!
Researching the painting with Claire- looking for some of the people from the painting around the garden! We found a few couples and some doggies but no monkey! Maybe next time!
Fancy dress and shoes!
A Fancy hat!
You can see one of the topiary couples in the background! Really neat!
Beautiful day!
Picking flowers
Bringing her Mommy some flowers! What a doll!
Spending these days with Annabelle are really fun. Seeing the world through your child's eye is one of the most fascinating ways to rethink your perspectives and form new ones. She's teaching me FAR more than I could ever teach her...
